Our Octa (OctaFX) review
Overview
Octa, known until its rebrand as OctaFX, has offered online forex and CFD trading since 2011. It is built around a simple, commission-free model:
- a recommended first deposit of about $25
- three account types tied to the MT4, MT5 and OctaTrader platforms
- a copy-trading app
- swap-free trading on all accounts
The brand has also attracted some of the most serious legal scrutiny of any retail broker in recent years, so the regulatory picture deserves careful reading.
Regulation and safety
Octa operates through several companies. Which one you sign with depends on where you live.
- Octa Markets Ltd (Comoros) is licensed by the Mwali International Services Authority (MISA) with international brokerage and clearing-house licence T2023320. Its company registration number is HY00623410. This is the main offshore entity for international clients, and its correspondence address is in Fomboni, on the island of Moheli. MISA is widely regarded as a very light-touch regulator.
- Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd is authorised by the CySEC under CIF licence 372/18. It serves European clients under ESMA rules, with leverage capped at 1:30.
- Orinoco Capital (Pty) Ltd is a South African FSCA-authorised financial services provider (FSP 51913). It acts as a local intermediary.
- Uni Fin Invest holds an investment-dealer licence (GB21027161) from the FSC of Mauritius.
- Octa Markets Incorporated is a Saint Lucia company (registration 2023-00092) that holds no financial licence.
Octa itself says that clients are served by whichever company is named in their account documentation, and that products differ by jurisdiction. Before funding an account, check that name and look it up on the relevant regulator's register.
Several serious issues have followed the group.
- India: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigated OctaFX under India's money-laundering law. In an October 2025 press release, the ED said it had attached assets worth more than Rs 2,681 crore, including crypto holdings, properties and a yacht in Spain. It also said the alleged mastermind had been arrested in Spain. The ED alleges that OctaFX ran an unauthorised trading platform without RBI permission. A prosecution complaint has been filed against OctaFX and 54 other parties, and the matter is before a special court.
- Cyprus: In August 2025 CySEC suspended the voting rights and management powers of the 95% shareholder of Octa Markets Cyprus Ltd, citing corporate-governance concerns.
- Malaysia: Bank Negara Malaysia added OctaFX to its Financial Consumer Alert List in August 2022. The Securities Commission Malaysia had already placed it on its investor alert list for unlicensed derivatives dealing.
Octa does not serve clients in the United States, among other restricted countries.
Fees and costs
Octa makes its money from the spread. Forex and CFD accounts carry no trading commission, and the broker does not charge swaps or inactivity fees. Spreads are floating and start from about 0.6 pips on major pairs. In June 2023 tests, FXEmpire observed EUR/USD spreads of roughly 0.8 to 1.0 pips. Benzinga puts the average EUR/USD trading cost at around 0.7 pips. There is no raw-spread account with separate commission, so very high-volume traders may find cheaper ECN pricing elsewhere.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum / recommended deposit | $25 |
| EUR/USD spread | From 0.6 pips; ~0.7–1.0 pips in third-party tests |
| Commission | None on forex/CFD accounts |
| Max leverage (offshore) | Up to 1:1000 on forex |
| Max leverage (CySEC, retail) | 1:30 |
| Swap-free | Available on all account types |
Accounts and products
Octa labels its accounts after the platform they run on: MT4, MT5 and OctaTrader. Trading conditions are broadly the same across all three. The account currency is usually USD, although some reviews also mention EUR on MetaTrader. Every account can be switched to swap-free, Sharia-compliant mode.
The offshore entity's leverage depends on the asset class:
- Forex: up to 1:1000
- Metals, energies and indices: up to 1:400
- Cryptocurrencies: up to 1:200
- Stocks: lower again
The instrument list is relatively compact. It includes around 35–52 currency pairs (counts vary by source and platform), gold and silver, energies, about ten indices, roughly 150 share CFDs and around 30 crypto CFDs. Benzinga's review puts the total at more than 300 instruments.
Platforms and tools
Clients can use MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 or OctaTrader, the broker's own web and mobile platform. Octa also offers a separate copy-trading app. Followers can copy several master traders, choose full or proportional copying and set drawdown limits. Masters set their own fees, typically a share of profits. Demo accounts are available on all platforms. Reviewers note that phone support is not offered; help comes through chat and email.
Deposits and withdrawals
Payment options depend on the client's country. They commonly include:
- Bank wire and instant local bank transfers
- Visa cards
- Skrill and Neteller
- Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether
Octa states that it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees. Reviews report deposits arriving within minutes and withdrawals being processed within hours, although your payment provider may add its own charges.
Who it suits
Octa's commission-free pricing, low entry deposit and copy-trading app are aimed at beginners and casual traders, and its universal swap-free option will appeal to Muslim traders. EU residents receive the strongest protection, through the CySEC entity. Most other clients will sign with the MISA-licensed Comorian company, which offers far weaker oversight. Anyone in India should note that the ED considers OctaFX's activity there unauthorised.
Verdict
Octa delivers low, straightforward trading costs and easy-to-use platforms. Its reputation, however, carries heavy weight from India's money-laundering case, regulator alerts in Malaysia and CySEC's action against its majority owner. The CySEC entity is a reasonable choice for EU clients. Elsewhere, the offshore structure and legal history mean traders should keep deposits modest, confirm the contracting entity in their documents, and withdraw regularly.
