Our Apex Trader Funding review
Overview
Apex Trader Funding is a US futures prop firm founded in 2021 by day-trading educator Darrell Martin and based in Austin, Texas. It grew rapidly thanks to aggressive discounting, the ability to run many accounts at once (up to 20 per trader) and a long list of supported platforms, and it claims more than $660 million paid to traders since 2022. It is also one of the most debated firms in the sector because of frequent rule changes and past payout delays.
Apex is an evaluation provider, not a regulated broker or fund. Evaluation and Performance Accounts are simulated, and payouts are discretionary rewards governed by its terms. Prices in this review were checked on 5 November 2026 and the firm runs near-constant promotions.
The March 2026 overhaul
On 1 March 2026 Apex replaced its monthly subscription evaluations with a one-time fee and a 30-day window to pass. New buyers choose between two tracks, standardised at $25K, $50K, $100K and $150K, and resets were removed. Accounts bought before that date are "legacy" accounts that keep their original rules, and some legacy sizes up to $300K have been offered as limited promotions.
- Intraday trailing: the drawdown floor follows the highest equity reached during the session, including open profit, and there is no daily loss limit.
- End-of-day (EOD): the floor is recalculated once at the daily close, and a daily loss limit pauses trading for the session without failing the account.
As with other futures firms, rules differ from CFD prop firms: there is no static percentage drawdown, positions must be flat before 4:59 PM ET each day, and risk is managed through contract limits rather than leverage.
Evaluation rules and pricing
| Account | Profit target | Trailing drawdown | EOD daily loss limit | Max contracts | List fee (Intraday / EOD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25K | $1,500 | $1,000 | $500 | 4 | $118 / $177 |
| $50K | $3,000 | $2,000 | $1,000 | 6 | $132 / $197 |
| $100K | $6,000 | $3,000 | $1,500 | 8 | $198 / $297 |
| $150K | $9,000 | $4,000 | $2,000 | 12 | $265 / $397 |
There is no minimum number of trading days and no consistency rule during the evaluation, so a target can in theory be reached in one session. Listed prices are routinely cut by large promotional discounts, but after passing you must pay a one-time Performance Account activation fee (reported as $79 for Intraday and $99 for EOD) within seven days; that fee is not discounted or refundable.
Performance Accounts and payouts
On current accounts Apex pays 100% of approved withdrawals, while some comparison sites describe a 100% split up to $25,000 per account followed by 90%. Payout eligibility is where the detail matters:
- At least five qualifying days, each above a minimum profit (for example $250 on a $50K EOD account).
- A balance above the "safety net" (drawdown plus $100) and a minimum request of $500.
- A consistency rule: the best day must be under 50% of profit since the last payout.
- Escalating per-payout caps, starting at $1,500 on a $50K account, and a maximum of six payouts before the Performance Account is retired.
Performance Accounts use an end-of-day trailing drawdown regardless of the evaluation track, and an open position's unrealised loss may not exceed 30% of the start-of-day profit balance. Accounts with no qualifying activity for 30 days are closed.
Platforms and products
Platform choice is a genuine strength. Via the Rithmic feed, reviewers list NinjaTrader, TradingView, Quantower, ATAS, Sierra Chart, MotiveWave, Bookmap, MultiCharts, R|Trader Pro and others, with Tradovate and WealthCharts also supported depending on account type. Products are CME-listed futures such as equity index, energy and Treasury contracts; reviewers noted that gold, silver and copper futures were blocked on all accounts in early 2026. News trading is permitted within normal strategy, but bracketing a release with orders on both sides is not. Automated strategies are allowed in evaluations but fully automated trading is prohibited on Performance and Live accounts. Copying trades between your own accounts is permitted.
Reputation and notable events
Apex's track record is mixed. In 2024 it faced widespread complaints about slow payouts, and Finance Magnates reported in August 2024 that the firm began asking traders for video recordings of two trading days, including webcam footage, before approving some payouts, while the CEO said new fraud-detection systems were being completed.
Repeated rule revisions, including the 2026 switch to one-time fees and payout limits per account, have frustrated some customers, and forgotten legacy subscriptions are a common complaint. Trustpilot ratings cited by comparison sites sit around 4.2–4.4, below the top CFD firms. On the positive side, Apex is US-owned and remained available to US traders when many CFD firms withdrew in 2024.
Who it suits
Apex suits active futures day traders who want cheap discounted evaluations, a wide choice of platforms and the option to run several accounts in parallel. It is less suitable for traders who dislike trailing drawdowns, who intend to hold positions overnight, or who want to run fully automated systems on funded accounts. Anyone joining should read the payout and consistency rules carefully before the first request.
Choosing between the two tracks is mostly about trading style. Scalpers who bank profits quickly and rarely let trades run may cope with the Intraday floor, while traders who give positions room during the session will usually find the EOD model more forgiving, at the cost of a slightly higher fee and a daily loss limit.
Verdict
Apex offers flexibility, low discounted entry costs and a 100% split on approved payouts, but it pairs those with complex payout conditions, per-account payout limits and a history of controversy. Treat the evaluation fee as a cost of trying, and check the latest terms on the official Apex Trader Funding website before buying.
